Pemberley and the End of Summer
Pemberley, a curly-haired schnoodle with bright, curious eyes, had just had the best summer ever. Every day, she and her owner, Mr. Darcy, explored the park, played fetch, and shared cozy afternoons reading in the garden.
But one morning, things felt different.
Mr. Darcy wasn’t pulling on his walking shoes or grabbing Pemberly’s leash. Instead, he packed a bag full of books, papers, and shiny new pens.
Pemberly tilted her head. Something was changing—and she didn’t love the way it smelled.
Mr. Darcy knelt down and gave her a gentle scratch behind the ears. “Summer is over, Pemberly,” he said with a smile. “It’s time for me to go back to school.”
Pemberly’s tail drooped. No more all-day adventures? No more surprise treats from the farmers’ market? No more lazy afternoons with her favorite human?
She watched as Mr. Darcy grabbed his coat and stepped outside. She sighed and curled up in his favorite chair.
But then—a thought!
As soon as he returned that afternoon, Pemberly was ready. She greeted him at the door, wagging her tail with excitement. Then, she followed him to his desk, curled up beside his feet, and listened as he graded papers. She even brought him his favorite slippers
.
Mr. Darcy laughed and rubbed Pemberly’s fluffy head. “Looks like I have a little assistant!” he said.
And just like that, Pemberly realized that although summer ended, her most important job had just begun: being the best school-year sidekick ever.
